I'VE FINALLY LOST MY CARICATURE VIRGINITY

I've just completed my first commission from a referral from the barbers shop. A dad requested it for his sons 21st birthday. He seemed pleased with it and has asked me to do another one for his younger sons 18th early next year.

ED'S DESIGNS

I couldn't resist asking Ed and Doug from my barbers shop, if I could have a go at their caricatures. They both have lovely faces full of character. Here are the results.

FIRST National Caricature Network UK CHAPTER MEETING 06/11/06

What better way to start my first blog than with a few pictures from the first ever NCN UK Chapter meeting held at the Holiday Inn near Rugby. It was attended by 15 caricature artists of varying experience from all over the UK, with a special guest apperance by Kage from Japan.

Part caricature competition and part social meeting, the event started with 4 hours drawing caricatures of each other followed by a meal and a prize giving. Having never drawn live before and being so close to some of the best guys around, I was very nervous about the event but soon calmed down after my first piece was completed.

The pictures show the artists at work, including me finishing one of four caricatures that were submitted for judging. Kage from Japan was voted by all the artists as the best overall caricaturist, followed closely by two of the UK's finest, Mick Hollinworth and Mike Giblin. I'm already looking forward to the next meeting.
