FOUR WEDDING CARICATURES FOR THE USHERS

My biggest and toughest commission yet; each caricature has a different theme to reflect the personalities of the four blokes who are to be the ushers at the clients wedding.

30TH BIRTHDAY GIFT

This commission was for a 30th birthday gift and had to depict him running to work as an air traffic controller at Aberdeen airport but I guess that was fairly obvious.

SMALL WORLD

I got this commission from a recommendation from Kelly at Kelly Cakes (thanks!). This client wanted a caricature for her husbands 40th birthday and had emailed me a few months ago but did not have any photos because her camera was broken. She recently emailed her requirements with the photos. At that point I realised that I had just been sat across her desk a few days before because she is acting as my divorce lawyer! He definitely moves in mysterious ways.

DAUGHTER'S BEST MATE

This is one I did for my daughter's best friends birthday. It took me loads of attempts before me and my daughter were happy with it. I ended up using a different reference photo than this one to capture her likeness.

KITTYCATURE

This is my first effort at a pet caricature and what better target than my Mum's cat, Sapphire. I thought it would make a good Christmas pressie so I got it framed. I hope she likes it.

WORKING FOR CAKE

For my lastest commission, I managed to trade a caricature for cake. Forget money, this has to be my ultimate motivator. Kelly from KellyCakes in Blackpool called me up to ask me to do a caricature of her biker husband, who is a chief helicopter engineer at Blackpool airport. In exchange, Kelly agreed to do a Bart Simpson birthday cake for my daughter's 14th birthday.

WEDDING COMMISSION

My first wedding commission turned out to be more complicated that I had hoped. The clients wanted the bride playing a grand piano and the groom drinking a pint plus it had to include their dog, all in one caricature! Luckily they liked my first effort straight away.

NCN CONVENTION Reno USA (October 2007)

I recently attended my first annual National Caricature Convention held this year in Nevada, USA. The standard of the artists was amazing and I used the experience as a learning exercise as well as a chance to make some new friends. It was a fantastic week of drawing, drinking and laughing. Best of all, I got drawn by last years Golden Nosey winner, and one of my favourite artists, Chris Rommel!
